The continent of Africa is completely surrounded by water on all sides, separated from:

  • Europe by the Mediterranean Sea to the North
  • Asia by the Suez Canal and Red Sea in the Northeast
  • Atlantic Ocean from the West
  • Indian Ocean from the East and West

Africa is a continent with many independent states which offer a rainbow of civilization filled with unique peoples, societies and civilizations. Currently (2019) there are 54 distinct states in africa.

African art has historically influenced the global art world. African art ranges from modern and historical paintings, carved sculptures and other visual native or indigenous Africans contributions.
